To date, the state of Arizona has not created a specific regulation for CBD products. CBD consumers in Arizona rely on the 2018 Farm Bill, which legalized CBD products containing no more than 0.3% THC.

In 2014, a court ruling determined that CBD is medically useful for treating epilepsy, as long as it contains less than 0.3% THC. Similarly to the state of Arkansas and Colorado, the state of Arizona has not established limits for CBD possession.

Recreational use of marijuana is illegal in Arizona. Medical cannabis, however, was made legal after the case of the Welton family in 2010. If you do have a medical marijuana card, you can possess up to 2.5 ounces every two weeks and grow up to 12 plants. However, if you smoke medical marijuana in Arizona you have to do it privately.  Medical marijuana patients never receive a prescription, they rather get a recommendation.

  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s disease
  • Cancer
  • Crohn’s Disease
  • Glaucoma
  • Hepatitis C
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • A chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition, or the treatment of such a condition that includes:
  • Cachexia, or wasting syndrome
  • Seizures, including that characteristic of epilepsy
  • Severe and chronic pain
  • Severe nausea
  • Severe or persistent muscle spasms, including that characteristic of multiple sclerosis

Are there any penalties for cannabis in Arizona?

Possession of cannabis without a medical marijuana ID card could result in a minimum $750 fine and possible jail time.
