CBD oil which is derived from hemp and contains less than 0.3% THC is legal for use in oil, tinctures, topical and even infused into certain kinds of edible products. It has been legal since the passage of the Hemp Farming Act of 2018. All purchases of hemp-derived CBD products must have a lab report or verification that the product contains less than 0.3% THC.
Is Cannabis legal in Tennessee?
In 2016, Senate Bill 2125, was signed into law. This bill amended the marijuana laws in Tennessee to exclude any cannabis oil, including cannabis flower and seeds, containing less than 0.6% of THC from the legal definition of marijuana. Later in 2016, House Bill 1044, was signed into law, allowing patients ,in a public institution with the state of a clinical research study, to manufacture, process, dispense and possess cannabis with 0.9% THC or less.

CBD products containing less than 0.6% THC are legal for possession. Licensed physicians can recommend cannabis oil that contains less than 0.9% THC but only to treat severe seizure disorders. Adult-use of weed is illegal in Tennessee.
Qualifying Conditions:
Tennessee recognizes only conditions causing intractable seizures, such as epilepsy, as valid for using CBD.
Are there any penalties for using CBD in Tennessee?
Possession of CBD oil without evidence that it was procured in another state is considered a Class C misdemeanor offense, punishable by a fine of up to $50, up to 30 days in jail or both. In Tennessee, cannabis must be produced and manufactured by a university as part of an approved clinical trial. The possession of mairjuana containing a higher amount of THC is considered illegal.
Possession of 0.5 ounce or less of marijuana is punishable by up to a $250 fine and one year in jail.
Conclusion:
CBD oil is legal in Tennessee as long as it contains less than 0.3% THC. Medical cannabis but only in CBD oil form, for intractable seizures. Adult- use of weed is illegal.
