In October 2019, Washington banned the sale of hemp-derived CBD in food and beverage products. CBD products which contains more than 0.3% THC must be sold in licensed cannabis dispensaries. Doctors are not permitted to prescribe CBD to their patients in Washington, however, they are allowed to recommend it to patients that they feel can benefit.

Are there any penalties for using Cannabis in Washington?
No, Cannabis is legal in Washington. While possession is legal, the sale or distribution of any amount of marijuana is illegal and can lead to a penalty of up to five years imprisonment and/or a fine up to $10,000. An additional mandatory fine of $1,000 applies to first offenses and a $2,000 fine to second or subsequent offenses.
