We have tried and tested over 70 CBD oil brands for you to determine the best CBD oil brand. Finally, we listed the best 50 CBD brands in the biggest CBD Test 2021 below. None of the brands included in the list were informed about this test, as we wanted our experience to be as authentic as possible. Let’s dive in:
Our team of independent testers purchased CBD oils from various manufacturers and brands over a period of several months. To give all CBD brands a fair chance, our team purchased products of the same concentration – 1000mg CBD oil. If this particular strength of CBD oil was not available by the manufacturer, an alternative product from their range that comes closest to the value was ordered. As a rule of thumb, no CBD oil exceeded more than 1500mg of CBD and 0.3% of THC in its content. We eliminated products with 500 mg and 300 mg of CBD per bottle. CBD oils with a concentration of 1000 mg seem to be the most preferred amongst CBD users, however, if such was not available by a particular brand we picked an oil with a 750 mg per CBD per bottle.
We also focused on full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD products and excluded CBD isolate oils. Our team specifically focused on CBD oils and excluded all other CBD products. The products were evaluated according to three main factors: quality/potency, customer care and shipping/delivery experience. All these factors were given a score, which helped us calculate the average final score for the brand.
We did not evaluate the long-term effect of CBD on the body, since everyone’s response to CBD is different and there are many factors that play a role in how a CBD oil works.
Best CBD Brand According to Our Test
In almost all categories the Full Spectrum CBD oil from the supplier Nordic Oil scored top marks. Nordic Oil appears to be the market leader in Europe and is rapidly growing in the USA.
Nordic Oil is also the only brand to achieve the full 100 points in one single category. After a fairly long phone call with their customer care team, they managed to answer all our questions without trying to sell us their most expensive products. We also contacted them per email and took advantage of their live chat support and social media support. We spoke to a total of 4 different customer care representatives and all 4 spoke to us in a kind, respective and empathetic manner. Evaluation criteria
High quality and high potency of the CBD product (per bottle)
The evaluation of the quality of CBD oil is based on the third-party lab reports the brand has provided, either upon request or openly on their website. We looked at the cannabinoid profile as well as the adherence to pollutant limits. In addition, we wanted to check if undesirable ingredients such as waxes, fats and chlorophyll were also filtered out by using a CO2 extraction. While we did try every single oil, the taste was not a scoring factor, as it could be deemed as bias. While we prefer the CBD oil to have a milder taste, this may not be the case of other consumers.
Content of CBD mg per bottle: Another important factor we looked for was the CBD content in the cannabinoid profile: the CBD content should not be less than the stated amount on the packaging of the product. In addition, the THC content should not exceed the legally prescribed amount. If you want to buy a full spectrum CBD oil, you should also get a product with the full range of cannabinoids from the hemp plant (with CBD CBDA, CBG, THC). CBD oil is tested for fungi, mould, yeast, heavy metals, pesticides and solvent residues to ensure high potency and purity. We also took into account the carrier oil (MCT oil, olive oil or hemp oil pressed from the seeds of the cannabis plant), as well as the overall content of ingredients per bottle.
Pay attention to the deceptive packages and over-the-top claims: Some manufacturers advertise their products as “Organic”, but not all of these manufacturers could provide us with the necessary certificates. Many manufacturers guarantee a positive effect or promise their customers unrealistic health benefits. However, the bottom line is: while many studies on the effects of CBD have already been conducted and the results look promising, everyone’s reaction to CBD is different and while it may have an effect on one person, it may not work for another. We believe that it is the sole responsibility of the CBD manufacturer to spread accurate information about their products, and not just try to make a sale.
Best Customer Service
Purchasing CBD oil is not like buying a new sweater. First-time buyers usually have many questions about the effects and correct application, especially in the context of simultaneous medication and health problems. Good customer service should also be able to answer frequently asked questions about CBD, THC and cannabis in an understandable way, giving the customer peace of mind, without exaggerating, helping them make an informed decision. In order to be able to give the best advice, customer support should not be rushed and should show a certain discretion, sensitivity and empathy. Easy and quick access across different channels and the option to be advised in other languages contribute significantly to positive customer experience.
How we evaluated the customer care of each brand: Our team posed as a complete “CBD newbie” and contacted each individual brand by phone, social media, email and live chat (if available). We aimed at keeping the customer service representative on the phone for at least 15 minutes and asked a variety of questions ranging from the basics to more complex questions such as CBD and drug interactions. We then completed the call by asking for a recommendation. To our surprise, many companies tried to sell us their most expensive product. Some, however, were quite helpful and patient. Other factors we looked at were some traditional e-commerce standards, such as package traceability and handling of returns and general buyer protection such as a 30-day satisfaction guarantee.
Packaging and shipping
The packaging of CBD oil does not play a huge role in the quality of the product, it should ideally be functional and as environmentally friendly as possible. With that said, there is one important factor regarding the packaging which does actually affect the quality of the product that is the color of the bottle. A clear bottle is not the best choice and will not protect the CBD oils if exposed to direct sunlight for a long period of time. Therefore, CBD manufacturers who provide their oil in a dark bottle, automatically are deemed as more reliable. Furthermore, the bottle should be of high quality and not leak.
The sooner the CBD oil arrives at your home after the online purchase, the better. A delivery time of up to 5 business days is acceptable. Since many manufacturers offer free shipping for orders above a certain value, we wanted to look for a brand that would go the extra mile when it comes to shipping. We were pleasantly surprised by the additional information regarding the effect and the cannabis plant, in general, we received from our “Best Brand” winner. Nordic Oil adds an informational and quite useful booklet for us to refer to while using their product. In addition, there was s small discount for our next purchase and a personalized letter.
Recommended retail price
The recommended retail price is based on the standard prices given in the online shops of the CBD manufacturers. The actual prices may of course vary. Our testers may purchase cannabis oil products during discount campaigns, which may no longer be available at this time. All prices are inclusive of value added tax (VAT). Shipping costs are not included in the price and do not contribute to the value for money.
Price per 25 mg CBD active ingredient / Price per serving
For many people, the effects of CBD become apparent when they take 25 mg a day. Side effects are usually not expected at this amount. However, the optimal dosage depends on many factors (including dosage form, desired effect and the body’s response to CBD). Nevertheless, for the sake of comparability, we compared the price per serving or how expensive a daily dose can be.
Price-performance ratio
The price/performance ratio in the CBD test is calculated from the overall score and the price per mg CBD. A high value (green) means that you pay relatively little for the quality. The middle values (yellow) indicates that there are better deals out there. The low values (red) indicate that the oil costs too much for the quality you get,
